we're out of time.”

At 11:58, he connected my phone to the conference monitor.

The secure folder showed a countdown.

Thirty seconds.

Twenty.

Ten.

Five.

Four.

Three.

Two.

One.

The screen refreshed.

New files appeared.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Then Mr. Reyes opened the first video.

Mother stood in the family study.

Celeste was beside her.

The recording had been captured from the smart monitor I had installed months earlier.

Mother said, “Once Nora leaves, we can finish the transfer.”

Celeste asked, “What if she checks the account?”

“She won't have access.”

“She might.”

“Not after the lawyer files.”

I felt my stomach tighten.

Mr. Reyes paused the video.

“What lawyer?”

“Their attorney.”

He nodded.

“Keep going.”

The next recording showed Celeste at the dining table.

Documents were spread around her.

A bank statement.

A foundation ledger.

Several receipts.

She was speaking to someone outside the frame.

“The money is already moved.”

Mr. Reyes leaned toward the screen.

“How much?”

I told him the figure.

He stared at me.

“That can't be right.”

“It is.”

He opened another file.

The transactions matched.

Money from the estate had been moved into accounts connected to Celeste's foundation.

Then portions of that money had been spent on personal purchases.

Jewelry.

Travel.

A property deposit.

And several large withdrawals.

I felt strangely calm.

This was what I had been looking for.

Not because I wanted revenge.

Because I needed proof.

Mr. Reyes opened another document.

My father's final estate amendment.

I had never seen it.

He turned the screen toward me.

“Read this.”

I did.

My father's signature was at the bottom.

The language was unmistakable.

If either Evelyn Ward or Celeste Ward engaged in fraud, coercion, or financial misconduct affecting the estate, authority could be transferred immediately to the surviving designated beneficiary.

Me.

I looked up.

“Why didn't Mother tell me about this?”

Mr. Reyes gave me a tired smile.

“Because if she had, she couldn't have done what she just did.”

I stared at the screen.

Mother had spent months trying to make me believe I was powerless.

She had destroyed my laptop because she thought the information inside it was the only thing standing between her and control.

But the evidence was safe.

And now I had discovered something even more important.

She had activated the very clause she had been trying to avoid.

Mr. Reyes closed the document.

“Tomorrow morning, we go to probate court.”

I nodded.

My phone rang again.

Celeste.

I let it ring.

Then a message appeared.

You have no idea what Mom is capable of.

I looked at it for several seconds.

Then another message arrived.

And if you go to court tomorrow, you'll lose everything.

I showed Mr. Reyes.

He read it.

“Save that.”

“I already did.”

He looked at me.

For the first time that night, he smiled.

“You're learning.”

Outside, the rain continued against the windows.

Inside, the clock moved toward morning.

And somewhere across town, my mother still believed she had forced me out of my home.

She didn't know I'd just found the document that could take the home, the estate, and everything she had built around her lies out of her hands.

Click here to continue reading: PART 3: By Morning, My Mother Walked Into Court Expecting an Apology,
