stopped.

“What?”

“I heard Calvin mention your accountant.”

Sasha turned back.

“My accountant has nothing to do with the moving.”

Sasha's heart tightened.

“Moving how?”

“He said there were investors.”

“Names?”

“I don't know.”

“Documents?”

“No.”

“Then you still haven't given me anything I can use.”

Denise looked defeated.

“I thought you would want to know.”

“I do.”

Sasha's voice softened slightly.

“But knowing something is wrong and knowing who did it are different things.”

Denise nodded.

“I understand.”

She drove away.

Sasha returned to the house and told Omar everything.

He frowned.

“Your accountant?”

“She handles the bakery books.”

“Could she know about the property?”

“Only if she looked at the business records.”

“Would she know the house is valuable?”

“Probably not.”

They contacted the attorney.

Miller advised them not to confront anyone.

Instead, they reviewed every person who had legitimately received financial information.

The list was short.

The accountant.

The attorney.

The lender.

The bank.

And, through family discussions, several relatives.

There was no evidence against any of them.

Two days later, the accountant called Sasha.

“I need to tell you something strange.”

Sasha's stomach tightened.

“What?”

“Someone contacted me asking about your business.”

“Who?”

“A man named Calvin Reed.”

Sasha sat down.

“What did he ask?”

“He wanted to know whether your business was generating enough income to support expansion.”

“Did you answer?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because I knew you hadn't authorized it.”

Sasha closed her eyes.

“Did he say how he knew you?”

“He said he had been referred.”

“By whom?”

“He wouldn't say.”

That was useful.

But not enough.

The attorney requested the accountant's records of the contact.

There were no financial documents shared.

No confidential information disclosed.

Calvin had tried.

He had been refused.

That meant his information about the bakery had likely come from someone else.

Taylor called again.

This time she sounded angry.

“I know who has been talking.”

Sasha's heart sank.

“Who?”

“Marissa's brother.”

“Why?”

“He works for the development company.”

“We know that.”

“No. I found something.”

Taylor sent a screenshot.

It was a social media photograph from a company event.

Calvin stood beside Marissa's brother.

The caption described him as part of the development acquisition team.

Sasha stared at the image.

“That proves they know each other.”

“Yes.”

“But not that he gave Calvin our information.”

“I know.”

Taylor sounded frustrated.

“I found something else.”

Another screenshot arrived.

It showed a message from Marissa's brother to Calvin.

The date was three months earlier.

The message said:

The owner is unlikely to sell unless pressure comes from family.

Sasha went completely still.

Omar read it over her shoulder.

“That's the evidence.”

Not complete evidence.

But a direct connection.

They forwarded everything to the attorney.

The attorney contacted the development company.

The company denied that the employee had acted improperly.

They claimed he had been conducting preliminary market research.

Miller responded formally that Sasha had not authorized contact, representation, or development inquiries.

He demanded written confirmation that no further representations would be made in her name.

The company agreed.

Calvin did not.

He sent one final message.

You may regret refusing an opportunity while the area is changing.

Miller advised Sasha to preserve it.

She did.

Then she blocked Calvin.

The legal problem was narrowing.

The emotional problem was harder.

Derek came to apologize again.

“I know I don't deserve forgiveness.”

Sasha looked at him.

“No.”

He nodded.

“I was desperate.”

“I understand.”

“I thought if you sold, I could pay everything back.”

“You put my home at risk.”

“Yes.”

“You gave a stranger information about my marriage.”

“Yes.”

“You let him believe I might sell.”

“Yes.”

She took a breath.

“I don't hate you.”

Derek looked surprised.

“But I don't trust you.”

He nodded.

“That is fair.”

“I don't know if that will change.”

“I understand.”

He turned toward the road.

Then stopped.

“I did one thing right.”

Sasha waited.

“I told Calvin the property wasn't mine.”

She looked at him.

“Too late.”

“I know.”

“But thank you for finally telling the truth.”

Derek nodded.

He left.

Sasha watched until his car disappeared.

Omar stood beside her.

“You okay?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

She smiled.

“I'm learning that being okay doesn't mean nothing hurts.”

He nodded.

“That sounds like something your mother would say.”

Sasha laughed.

“Maybe.”

That evening, a letter arrived from Denise.

Sasha opened it.

There was no request.

No explanation.

Only an apology.

Denise admitted that she had given Calvin access to documents because she believed selling the property would solve the family's financial problems.

She admitted she had spoken about Sasha's marriage, business, and finances.

She admitted she had crossed every boundary Sasha had tried to establish.

Then she wrote one final sentence.

I cannot undo what I did, but I will stop interfering with your life.

Sasha read it twice.

She handed it to Omar.

“What do you think?”

“I think it's the first time she hasn't asked for anything.”

Sasha nodded.

She placed the letter in the drawer.

Not because everything was forgiven.

Because the chapter no longer needed another argument.

The legal issues were being resolved.

Calvin had no ownership.

The development company had withdrawn its unauthorized inquiry.

Derek had admitted his role.

Marissa's involvement was documented.

Denise had finally accepted the boundary.

The house was still theirs.

The orchard was still standing.

The bakery was growing.

And Sasha was no longer the woman who had stood at the sink waiting for someone else to decide whether she was allowed to belong.

But there was one final thing she needed to do.

She needed to decide what she wanted this house to become now.

Click here to continue reading: PART 12: Sasha Finally Understood Why the House Had Been Worth Fighting For, and Her
