another envelope arrived.

This one was addressed to Eric.

He opened it.

Inside was a copy of a document he had never seen.

It showed several outstanding debts in Richard's name.

Eric stared at the pages.

“Where did this come from?”

There was no return address.

I looked at Dana's previous correspondence.

The information matched.

Someone was continuing to reveal pieces of Richard's financial situation.

Then Eric noticed something.

The dates.

Several debts had been taken out before Richard moved into our home.

Others had been opened afterward.

“He was using the house as part of his plan from the name.

The balance was enormous.

And one of the listed contact numbers belonged to Richard's broker.

The pattern became clearer.

They were not merely trying to solve one debt.

They were trying to create a financial arrangement that depended on our property.

I called Dana.

She told us to stop opening anything further until she could review it.

The next day, she requested a formal title protection measure.

The house would be monitored for unauthorized filings.

We also changed every remaining password connected to the property.

It felt like closing doors one by one.

Then Eric received another message.

This time from Patricia.

Please tell your wife we only wanted security.

Eric showed it to me.

I answered for the first time.

Security for whom?

There was no response.

An hour later, Patricia replied.

For the family.

I typed:

Then why was my daughter the first person you removed?

No answer came.

That silence told me enough.

That night, Grace sat beside me on the
